Biography

Dr. Stephen Brown, M.D.

Dr. Stephen Brown is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Arthoscopic shoulder and knee reconstruction, Sports Medicine and total joint replacements. His patient population ranges from the smallest tike to the high school athlete; from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior; and finally to our revered seniors.

Dr. Brown's zest and passion for life is translated to his patients through his personalized care. Although Dr. Brown is a surgeon he believes in exhausting all non-operative options and modalities before exercising surgical options. Using tools such as physical therapy, patient education and adjunct treatments routinely result in a patients return to work, sports and activities of daily living without surgical intervention. However, when appropriate, Dr. Brown and his surgical team use state of the art surgical techniques in hopes of making each patient well.

Dr. Brown, a native Annapolitan, attended college and medical school at the University of Virginia. His Orthopaedic Surgical Training was completed at George Washington University. After which he began working with Bay Area Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in August of 1989.

Dr. Brown has also served as a clinical investigator researching breast cancer for The National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Brown is the founder and President of The Greater Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Society which provides a lecture and educational series for Orthopaedic Surgeons across Maryland. He is an active member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and The Arthroscopy Association of North America as well as The Eastern Orthopaedic Society.

Throughout his career Dr. Brown has cared for athletes; from Little League to High School, college to professional basketball, golf, hockey and lacrosse. His training and continual education has afforded him an expertise in Orthopaedic Surgery with specialization of the shoulder, knee and sports medicine.
